چکیده

In this paper we present the reasoning mechanism in the OWLIM family of semantic repositories, which is based on materialization. This mechanism is evaluated using a combination of datasets from the Linked Open Data cloud in a public service called FactForge, where the benefits of materialization are manifested in improved SPARQL query performance.

FactForge: A fast track to the Web of data

The advent of Linked Open Data has seen a large number of structured datasets from various domains made available to the public. These datasets are seen as a key enabler for the Semantic Web, where applications can consume and combine this data in powerful and meaningful ways. However, the uptake of Linked Data during this ‘introductory phase’ is hampered in ways similar to the uptake of any ne...

OWLIM - A Pragmatic Semantic Repository for OWL

OWLIM is a high-performance Storage and Inference Layer (SAIL) for Sesame, which performs OWL DLP reasoning, based on forward-chaining of entilement rules. The reasoning and query evaluation are performed inmemory, while in the same time OWLIM provides a reliable persistence, based on N-Triples files. This paper presents OWLIM, together with an evaluation of its scalability over synthetic, but ...

Accessing Linked Open Data via A Common Ontology

In the paper we present the construction of the FactForge service. FactForge represents a reason-able view over several Linked Open Data (LOD) datasets including DBPedia, Freebase and Geonames. It enables users to easily identify resources in the LOD cloud by providing a general unified method for querying a group of datasets. FactForge is designed also as a use case for large-scale reasoning a...

Implementing CIDOC CRM Search Based on Fundamental Relations and OWLIM Rules

The CIDOC CRM provides an ontology for describing entities, properties and relationships appearing in cultural heritage (CH) documentation, history and archeology. CRM promotes shared understanding by providing an extensible semantic framework that any CH information can be mapped to. CRM data is usually represented in semantic web format (RDF) and comprises complex graphs of nodes and properti...

Hybrid Query Answering Over Expressive DL Ontologies

The design of tractable Description Logics, like EL [1], DL-Lite [2], and RL [5] have spurred the design and implementation of highly scalable systems such as OWLim, Oracle’s Semantic Graph, and more. The attractive properties of the these systems have in many occasions led application developers to use them even in cases where the input ontology is expressed in the far more expressive SROIQ la...
